Greenville
Shady Grove Baptist Church is located just outside of Greenville, Texas. Greenville is the seat of Hunt County and is located about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. Greenville was founded in 1846 and 42 years later, Shady Grove Baptist Church was founded in 1888. Greenville was named after Thomas J. Green, a significant contributor to the establishment of the Texas Republic. In early years, Hunt County was known as the cotton capital of the world. The world's largest inland cotton compress was located in Greenville until it was destroyed by fire in the mid-1900s. Greenville is the home of the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, L3Harris, and the Hunt Regional Medical Center. Shady Grove Baptist Church has had several members work at L3Harris over the past several decades. Shady Grove Baptist Church is located 7.5 miles away from Greenville's city center.
