Shady Grove Baptist Church is located 10 miles east of Cumby, Texas. Cumby is a city in Hopkins County, Texas and is located about 65 miles northeast of Dallas. Cumby was originally known as Black Jack Grove as early as 1848, although it went as Theodocias from 1857 to 1858. In 1896 it was named after Confederate army veteran Robert H. Cumby, and 11 years after Shady Grove Baptist Church was founded in 1888.Cumby is the home of several members at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Shady Grove Baptist Church can be accessed from Commerce by Highway 30.
